This American Heart Month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Million Hearts® (a national effort to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes in the United States by 2017) are encouraging Americans to know their blood pressure, and if it's high, to make control their goal. Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke.
So let's pinky swear on this....talk with your doctor, check your blood pressure and know your number. If it is high, set a goal to lower your blood pressure right away! High blood pressure is called the "silent killer" because it often has no warning signs or symptoms, and many people do not know they have it.
A healthy, fantastic heart, and lowering your blood pressure are the benefits you receive from regular exercise, clean eating, reduce sodium intake, drinking your water. Regarding exercise...
“Something is always better than nothing!
And everyone has to start somewhere. Even if you’ve been sedentary for years, today is the day you can begin to make healthy changes in your life. If you don’t think you’ll make it for 30 or 40 minutes, set a reachable goal for today. You can work up toward your overall goal by increasing your time as you get stronger. Don’t let all-or-nothing thinking rob you of doing what you can every day.”
Give yourself the best valentine this year by checking your blood pressure and knowing your number. And don't forget that movement is medicine. We will see you at Bootcamp!
